Don’t Settle
Don’t settle for something below your standards just to reduce short-term anxiety.
In relationships, spending time with immature or insecure partners can quietly train you to operate inside their chaos. You will have to shrink yourself to keep the peace, take responsibility for their emotions, and confuse emotional labor with connection. Secure women don’t require that kind of constant calibration, and the “work” looks completely different: it’s steadier, more honest, and more aligned with who you want to be.
The same pattern shows up in business relationships. For example, when you’re building a startup and raising money from VCs. Shallow investors ask shallow questions and pull you into defensive, low-leverage conversations, while top-tier VC firms engage from a fundamentally different perspective.
The danger isn’t just wasting time, it’s that consistently choosing “lower” rewires you. It erodes your instincts, lowers your baseline, and makes it harder to return to the level you actually belong or want to be at.
The real discipline is refusing to downgrade your standards as a coping mechanism, and choosing environments: people, partners, career that demand your best instead of conditioning your worst.
